NCDEU: adapting

June 16th, 2010 by gelenberg Leave a reply »

I write from the 50th annual meeting of the NCDEU in Boca Raton. Started a half century ago by NIMH as the Early Clinical Drug Evaluation unit (ECDEU) to convene researchers in the new field of psychopharmacology, NCDEU (the “Early” evolved to “New” in the title) has become a premier forum for academic researchers, industry scientists, senior NIMH and FDA representatives, clinical investigators, and clinicians to learn and mingle in a scintillating but relaxed atmosphere. A few years ago, BTP’s partner, the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP), became a partner with NIMH in managing the meeting. Now, ASCP will fly “solo” in the steering role, promising to continue NCDEU’s strengths and enrich it for our burgeoning field. NIMH and FDA will retain important roles. If you haven’t attended an NCDEU meeting, treat yourself. It will take place June 13-16, 2011, again in Boca Raton.
